Competency Assessment (CA)
To receive credit, you must complete the competency assessment. You may contact your professor if you have any questions.
This competency assessment (CA) assesses your level of performance on the specific Outcome(s) that are the focus of this module. The CA requires you to demonstrate your knowledge, understanding, and proficiency of the Outcome(s). Be sure to use the other activities in this module prior to attempting the CA. You may attempt the CA multiple times within the term. However, the CA must be completed successfully by the end of the term to earn credit. Refer to your Syllabus for additional information regarding the number of attempts permitted.
Be sure to review the Competency Assessment Rubric to understand the criteria on which you will be evaluated.
Instructors will provide feedback on the CA. If you expect to receive feedback, revise, and resubmit this CA near the end of the term, be sure to follow the guidelines and deadlines for submission in your Syllabus.

The Researched Proposal
This competency assessment assesses the following Outcomes:
Analyze business problems using research.
Use language that is clear, concise, and organized.
The researched proposal must be no fewer than 2,500 words, no more than 3,000. The word count includes all components. The purpose of establishing a word count is to ensure the topic chosen is neither too big nor too small. Also, writing within parameters is a common requirement in business communications.
The problem or issue need not be enormous.
For the researched proposal, identify a problem or issue in your present or past workplace, or your community. The assessment objective is to propose a solution to the problem or issue, and to present that solution to a decision-maker or group of decision-makers who can implement the recommendation. You will support your proposal with research.
You will develop a concrete, practical solution to the problem that can be implemented. Reference sources will be included that explain the problem, issue, and/or support the solution.
Checklist:
- Cover memo or letter, depending upon the audience, which introduces the attached proposal.
- Cover page—include title of proposal, recipient’s name and title, your name and title, and the date.
- Table of contents
- Executive summary of no more than one page.
- Statement and general analysis of the problem using research.
- Analyze the problem from at least three (3) stakeholders’ viewpoints.
- Include a minimum of one original graphic.
- Conclusion stated as a recommendation for implementation of the solution.
- Reference page of at least five cited sources, one of which is from a peer-reviewed journal and no more than two personal interviews. No more than 15% direct quotes.
- Use clear, concise language, correct spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
- Use APA 7thedition for the content and citation format and style.
- The total proposal should be composed of 2,500 words, but no more than 3,000 words.
Minimum Submission Requirements
- Proper notification of any resubmission, repurposing, or reworking of prior work per the Purdue Global Student Coursework Resubmission, Repurposing, and Reworking Policy Resource.
- You must address all checklist items.
- Your writing should be well ordered, logical, and unified, as well as original and insightful.
- Your submission must be written in Standard English and demonstrate exceptional content, organization, style, spelling, grammar, and mechanics.
If the work submitted for this competency assessment does not meet the minimum submission requirements, it will be returned for revision. If the work submitted does not meet the minimum submission requirements by the end of the term, you will receive a failing score.
