Technology Education
Assess your own technology skills, and list three areas in which you could improve your abilities. Do you believe that technology in the classroom will help improve students learning? Please explain.

Over the past two or three years, our corporation has done a couple technology carousels and spent a great deal of our professional development days on technology. That has helped my “technology skills” greatly. I am still not comfortable in many situations trying to implement new technologies, but I am getting better. I could still use assistance in the areas of developing online curriculum for my at-home students, adapting assignments with technology tools, and utilizing programs like Pear Deck more effectively with my students. I know the basics of several programs, but I know I am not using them to their full potential.
I believe that technology education in today’s world is a necessity, but I also believe that young children need to learn basic skills on paper and pencil. Steps need to be shown and brain connections need to be created with the coordination of eyes, hands, and mind. I believe that it can definitely enhance learning for students, but fear that it will not meet the needs of all learners. I have many students that get headaches from looking at a screen all day and many students are no longer fluent in math facts or spelling any more. I fear that communication may become limited to technology (email, text, etc.), which is very impersonal.
