Collaboration in healthcare has shown an increase in patient outcomes (Bosch & Mansell, 2015). Five essential roles in team success role clarity, trust and confidence, ability to overcome adversity, ability to overcome personal differences, and collective leadership. Interprofessional teamwork increases the likelihood of team success (Bosch & Mansell, 2015). Interprofessional collaboration promotes the participation of each discipline in patient care, where the team works together to fully engage with patients, support them, and advocate them to leaders (McKee, 2020). Interprofessional collaboration has shown to improve patient care and outcomes, reduced medical errors, faster treatment, and improved staff relationships (McKee, 2020). Benefits of collaboration are that they allow participants to achieve more together than they can individually. Interprofessional collaboration can help to serve larger groups of people allows growth on individual and organizational levels. Effective interpersonal collaboration is a team-based way to improve patient outcomes and safety. Improved staff relationships can be built by recognizing hardworking staff members and creating transparency in their recognition. Interprofessional collaboration in healthcare is important to create healthcare organizations that have a collaborative culture. Collaborative healthcare organizations want to implement communication tools and support that culture (McKee, 2020).
Collaborating fully to transform the healthcare system is something that the future of nursing focuses on (Assessing progress on the Institute of Medicine Report the Future of Nursing 2016). The report calls for all nurses to create, support and seek opportunities for collaboration and leadership at all levels and in every practice environment. Two recommendations are to expand opportunities for nurses to lead and diffuse collaborative improvement efforts and prepare and enable nurses to lead change and advance health (Assessing progress on the Institute of Medicine Report the Future of Nursing 2016).

Between proficient joint effort comprises of four center abilities: 1) qualities and morals for between proficient practice, 2) jobs and responsibilities regarding cooperative practice, 3) between proficient correspondence practices, and 4) between proficient collaboration (Jakubowski and Perron, 2018).
Acknowledgment of the qualities and morals of between proficient practice implies cooperating while at the same time regarding the aptitude of those in different disciplines. Interprofessional collaboration is vital to the successful care provided to patients within the healthcare system. This collaboration reduces errors by providing multiple lines of defense in order to catch potential errors. If 3 out of 4 team members miss a potential error, and the 4th member catches it because of the interprofessional collaboration then a reduction in errors will occur. Due to the interdisciplinary team collaborating concerning patient care, a higher quality of care is provided because of the combination of experience shared during the planning and implementation process of patient care. Each discipline focuses on certain aspects of patient care. Unfortunately, things can be missed by individuals due to their focus on one particular aspect. Physicians are focused on fixing the medical problem. Occupational and physical therapists are focused on treating their specific discipline. Respiratory is focused on respiratory issues. Sometimes a patient is in the hospital for a heart problem, however they also have problems with their gait. With interprofessional collaboration with the nurse at the center to facilitate everything, the patient’s cardiac condition can be treated, while fall precautions are outlined and implemented. If just the physician was treating the cardiac condition, the gait problem may go unnoticed and the patient could fall. This collaboration leads to increased safety (Schuetz Haemmerli et al., 2021).
An emerging trend that will require more interprofessional collaboration is that of advanced degrees. Physicians have always been at the top of the pyramid, being the ones ultimately responsible for diagnosing and providing treatment for the patient. With the advancement of education, many nurses, PTs, OTs etc are now holding doctoral degrees in their respective fields. Essentially, the medical team is becoming a collaboration of members that are all on the same level. It will be necessary for everyone to see and realize this change and be able to communicate and collaborate without arrogance or judgement.

The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 (PPACA) contains many provisions that looked to improve both quality of care and decreased cost. Nurses’ education, skills and professional scope make them an invaluable part to the successful implementation of innovative patient–centered care delivery models. An example would be Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs). These incorporate an interdisciplinary care delivery team who accept joint responsibility for the quality and cost of care provided to its patients. This group of health care professionals’ coordinates items and services under Medicare and redesigned care processes for high quality and efficient service delivery. The largest benefit that accountable care could bring for the healthcare industry is to reduce spending. Another major benefit of ACOs is their ability to improve population health management and patient outcomes. New healthcare delivery models like ACOs offer innovative methods for payers and providers to achieve better population health outcomes. Medicaid ACOs have shown a greater focus on preventing disease and promoting wellness, which leads to stronger population health improvements. This reduces the likelihood that a disease would progress, which could result in an expensive hospital stay. The patients benefit from a number of advantages including, improved patient outcomes, the better quality of care, and an overall reduction of cost to patients (Goodson, 2010).

Interdisciplinary care is achieved through collaboration and integration of different healthcare members to strive and achieve positive patient outcomes. It is essential in improving patient outcomes, satisfaction and quality of care (Wilson & Seymour, 2017). An innovative health care delivery system model would be substance use organization to deal with the prevention and treatment of substance use. The model contains various specialists from different disciplines. The model comprises medical specialists for reducing addiction and offering treatment: nurses who help the medical specialists in giving care: nutritionists to advise patients on what to take during the recovery process: and psychologists to provide psychological support to patients.
The model has endless advantages to patients. First, it can help drug and substance addicts to overcome the problem by receive treatment. Having different specialists working together to provide care to the patients helps in improving outcomes, especially in those with disorders. Moreover, patients are satisfied with the services offered to them and their recovery duration is reduced significantly, thus saving on time and finances (Shimpi, Pathak & Acharya, 2019). Such a model can help patients pass through the withdrawal period without much difficulty. Embracing such a model would help to provide comprehensive care which is all-inclusive and patient-centred; thus, managing to attain quality care and positive patient outcomes.

It is used to store huge data and information regarding the health and medical history of the patient. It also contains the information of the procedures, diagnosis as well as treatment provided to the patients. Hence it store all the information which can be easily achieved or access by the interdisciplinary team to treat the patients. This also provided evidence based practice as in the case of treatment provided to the complicated disease or conditions. It can be used as a referral. Hence the interdisciplinary team can work together to treat an individual as healthcare professionals can easily collect the information. So, it reduces the workload of the healthcare professionals, increases the efficiency of the treatment as well as improved patient outcomes.
